Elk River, Minnesota, in Sherburne county, is 16 miles N of Maple Grove, Minnesota (center to center) and 26 miles NW of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Elk river is included in the Minneapolis - Saint Paul metropolitan area. As of the year 2000 census, 16,447 people lived in Elk River.
In 1955, Edina, Minnesota housewife and mother of three Emma Rovick borrowed $2,000 and bought a struggling real estate firm in order to make enough money to buy a piano for her daughter.
